The Glider Diner as been serving great fresh food since 1945. At mealtimes seating is tight, folks in Scranton want to eat on schedule. If a politician is passing through Scranton, this is the place they stop to shake hands with real people.
This is a diner that hasn’t changed much in 65 years. Many of the menu favorites have had that status for decades. Their roast beef platter is as solid as they come. Many specials sell out by the end of the day. A conversation with your waitress is a must.

Why Go: The Glider Diner is an institution and a local favorite. Get your fries with Gravy.
On a recent lunch trip I opted for a spinach omelet, toast, coffee, home fries. Satisfying, Eggs freshly cracked, a little American cheese, diner coffee.
Home fries, boiled potatoes seasoned and after a trip to the grill, warmly blanketed by the house beef gravy. That’s right, gravy is not just for fries, it’s for breakfast.
Special at the Glider are on the menu every week. Roast beef, House dipped fish and chips, roast pork with stuffing, chicken pot pie. All favorites. The place is bustling most of the day specials fly out of the kitchen hot and fresh. One plate of ham, cabbage and noodles caught my eye and helped me decide.
One last thing about the Glider. It’s not The Palm, Gibsons, or even Musso and Frank’s. It is a place serving good food, hot and fresh. If you go you’ll find most tables accommodate three or four generations comfortably. Sharing a plate of fries and gravy with your grandparents, parents, and children is what keeps the Glider a Scranton favorite.
